Only Scammers Ask You to Pay for Services with a Gift Card
Has anyone asked you to pay a bill or a fine with a gift card? If this seems unusual, it's because it's a scam. No real business or government agency will ever tell you that you need to pay with a gift card.
Generally, these sorts of scams begin with a phone call, text message, email, or social media message. The person contacting you claims they're from the government or a company you know, but they're not. They say you need to pay right away or face terrible consequences, but you won't.
If you've been scammed or someone attempted to scam you, report it to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.FTC.gov.
